10350 Complete Guide To using Direct Contact Overlays DCO by James Miller
10350 Complete Guide To using Direct Contact Overlays DCO by James Miller
The new book by this internationally renowned framing educator will help you gain new expertise in picture framing designs and mounting options with three categories of Direct Contact Overlay attachments.
Over 165 full-colour photos and detailed illustrations give clear and concise instructions for creating innovative, preservation-quality, mounts using clear polyester film, fine-mesh fabrics and acrylic glazing.
DCO mounts are float mounting techniques using these transparent or nearly transparent materials to cover, support and securely attach items within a frame, providing secure support and showing all edges. Recto-verso (front-back) mounts are described for some items, as well. The non-adhesive techniques are minimally invasive, reversible, low-risk, uncomplicated and cost effective. They are also framer-friendly, requiring only readily available materials and framing tools.
DCO mounting may be especially useful for framing items that are difficult to attach in a frame without damage. This includes deteriorated, fragile, antique papers or textiles, which may be unable to support their own weight or withstand the stresses imposed by traditional mounting methods. DCO mounting can also be useful for three-dimensional objects, such as books, magazines, newspapers, golf balls and tennis balls.
